Best of Daft Punk

Daft Punk

Daft Punk is like an endangered species. People await their arrival and ponder their very existence and when they do decide to peek out of their hiding places it’s a newsworthy and magical event. What makes them so much more mysterious is the fact that there is very little evidence of their persona outside of their leather outfits and robot helmets.

Rumors swirl about who they actually are, imaginary tour dates, theoretical albums being released, and all folklore Daft Punk. They withhold their attention from us like an emotionally abusive boyfriend which is why we constantly keep pawing at them for more.

But hopefully the wait will soon be over. Here are some of our favorite tracks to keep us going until their next allegedly confirmed tour and hopefully imminent album release.

#9 “Around The World”

I will give you a million dollars if you can listen to the first thirty seconds and remain completely motionless. Not really, but you get the point. This track has an absolutely infectious beat that will have you bouncing in your seat if not full out dancing.

“Around the World” is undeniably one of their biggest tracks and showcases their ability to be completely whimsical in their composition. This video is absurdity at its finest and you can’t help but laugh.

#8 “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”

“Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” may have had renewed success thanks to Kanye West, but this song stands alone as one on my favorite Daft Punk songs. It’s a song that lets their affinity for other genres shine through in.

There is a definite disco and new wave feel that makes the track sound a lot older than it actually is, while keeping it contemporary. Daft Punk will never go out of style is the bottom line message.

#7 “One More Time”

The thing that makes Daft Punk so universally loved is the happiness that pulsates through their music. “One More Time” is the anthem for free-loving celebration. There is no darkness or cynicism in this track just thumping drums and auto-tuned vocals that lend themselves to the pure joy that bumps out of your speakers when you hit Play.

#6 “Derezzed” (TRON Legacy)

Fans literally went crazy when they found out that the ever illusive Daft Punk would be doing the score for Disney’s “Tron” and they were not disappointed in the least. The sci-fi nature of the film went hand in hand with electronic dance music and really let the duo experiment with a slightly grittier sound, while still keeping a highly orchestral quality.

“Derezzed” is one of those songs that has you in its crosshairs from the first beat. And lest we forget we were also treated to a rare sighting of the endangered species known as Daft Punk for the briefest of moments in the movie.

If you get a chance, check out Avicii‘s remix, which is completely different but also highly satisfying.
